We’ll admit that butter and salt are usually not the healthiest things for your body, but this recipe is too good to pass up! Our Pacific Flake Sea Salt is unrefined, so you are getting minerals that you won’t get from iodized salt.
*If you only have salted butter, cut the flake salt in half.
You may think that this is a very spicy recipe with the amount of cayenne pepper but the heat is very well balanced by the garlic butter. If you want a spicier dish, use hot paprika instead of sweet. Serve with white rice, fried rice or salad for a well balanced lunch or dinner.
Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp
Ingredients
- 1 lb jumbo shrimp (16-20 count size)
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tbsp paprika (Sweet or Hot by preference)
- 1/2 tsp pacific flake sea salt
- 20 cloves garlic chopped
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp olive oil add more if necessary
- 1/2 tbsp lemon juice add more if necessary
Instructions
- Prep your shrimp by cleaning them under running water. De-vein them by slicing â…› of an inch on the outside of the shrimp from the tail to the top of the head. Remove the vein. Keep the shells on and dry the shrimp with paper towels. (You can remove the shells if you prefer, we normally just leave the tails on to eat them by hand)
- Mix the flour, cornstarch, cayenne, paprika, and salt together. Coat each shrimp thoroughly including the slit that you just cut – Place on a wire rack and set it aside until it’s time to cook.
- In a pan over medium heat, add the butter until it melts then add the garlic.
- Cook until the garlic is crispy and golden, about 3 minutes.
- Transfer the garlic butter to a new bowl.
- In the same pan, add the olive oil and cook the shrimp until crispy on both sides, about 1 minute per side or until the meat is opaque.
- Add the garlic butter back into the pan with the shrimp and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Drizzle the lemon juice on top and taste.
Here’s what the garlic should look like when it’s done. It wants to be golden brown and slightly crispy, one trick is to make sure you don’t chop the Garlic too finely.
